It has already been 10 years since the Fukushima daiichi nuclear disaster, and 35 yeas ago on 26th of April 1986, the other of the worst nuclear catastrophes happened — the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

We all say after encountering a disaster that we will never forget it, but actually, as time passes people gradually forget the memory. The Chernobyl is no exception. This is why the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, and the State Agency for Tourism Development supported a Kiev-based agency, Banda Agency to develop an identity for the site.

The logo is the shape of the reactor surface, from which it all began, and it changes and disappears every passing year until 2064, when the Chernobyl nuclear power plant will be completely decommissioned.

Thoughts

The starting point — using the shape of the reactor surface— is maybe easy to come up with, however, the vanishing use idea is WOW! Since dynamic identity become famous, it is not so surprising that logos change their forms but I have never seen this kind of timelapse ones. No other ideas could been much appropriate for this “vanishing” site.
